Reliably informed

With Evolution Emerging fast approaching, most bands are putting the final touches to their sets and making sure their live show is as tight as they can be. Post punk duo Massa Confusa have probably been doing the same, but the pair have also been busy producing a brand new track in preparation for the event. With a wealth of material already under their belt, they probably didn’t need anything extra but it’s a good job they did make the special traverse into the studio because Forget is probably one of Massa Confusa’s most beguiling singles yet.

Combining electronic bleeps with dark riffs and a pounding drum beat, Forget is an almost hypnotic slice of post punk that stays with you well after it fades away. It’s almost ironic that for the amount of times singer Ally Morton implores the listener to forget, it’s almost impossible to do so. The single also features two electronic remixes from fellow Evo Emerging artists Symmatik and What We Call Progress. On his remix, Symmatik makes the track almost unrecognisable from its original form, turning Forget into a bleak and atmospheric slice of semi-ambient electronica. Meanwhile, What We Call Progress retain more of Morton’s vocals and play around with them, subjecting them to various vocal manipulations and creating a choppy, staccato quasi house tune.

The single as a package is a showcase of the talents of all three bands, one of the most exciting trios on the more alternative end of the spectrum. If you weren’t sure about popping down to The Tanners on Saturday, Forget is all the convincing you need.

Massa Confusa play at The Tanners as part of Evolution Emerging on Saturday 23rd May.
