The hotly-tipped five-piece play a handful of shows in the region
MathaGunn are a hotly-tipped, female-fronted five-piece built around Abi Woodman’s robust vocals, with songs like the anthemic Heaven drawing heavily from seventies inspirations.
They embark on something of a mini tour of the region this month, playing shows at Newcastle’s Riverside (Thursday 26th), Stockton’s Gathering Sounds festival (Saturday 28th) and Independent in Sunderland (Sunday 29th September).
2019 EP Love & Emotion was a cacophony of rolling drums, dream-like vocals and anthemic choruses. Saint Cecilia is the lead single, one which was accompanied by an effortlessly cool, bluesy music video which gives an engrossing impression of their live performances. It’s the title track on the same EP which really sets the pulse racing, and is the finest example of their crisp, biting sound which draws on elements of classic songwriting and modern indie rock. They’re certainly ones to watch, at whichever venue you can catch them.
