Reliably informed

Chinese contemporary surrealist painter Mao Kai is about to have work exhibited in the UK for the first time, and we should all be very excited it’s happening right here in the North East, at Newcastle’s Abject Gallery from Wednesday 12th October until Saturday 5th November.

Utilising all he learnt about modern society from a career in the advertising industry, Mao Kai’s paintings embody idealism learnt in modern China and utilise the dynamic of the conceptual gap between planned economy and market economy. His oil paintings use real artistic skill and originality and are firmly based in his surrealist influences. Subtly expressing conceptual themes, he blends his works between classicism and a modernist temperament for some striking and memorable pieces that make this exhibition one we should be very happy has arrived in Newcastle.

Mao Kai’s Superior Animals is at Abject Gallery, Newcastle from Wednesday 12th October until Saturday 5th November.
