Summer has one of its highlights in place already, as after the success of last year’s shows at Times Square, yet more are being lined up for 2017. The next headliners announced are an absolutely magnificent choice too as the legendary Manic Street Preachers head to town on Saturday 5th August, as part of the two-week long festival of outdoor music.

The iconic trio have an ample back-catalogue to choose from, with their punk roots flitting in and out of more anthemic affairs, which should go down a storm at a gig as big as this one. There are plenty of classics, and songs that probably soundtracked the 90s and beyond for many of us, with the influential band changing lives through raw, honest and poetic tracks. Supremely well written lyrics have always meshed wonderfully with James Dean Bradfield’s incredible musicianship, and the multi-million record selling band are sure to sell tickets for this show fast. With some fantastic support still to be announced (last year’s line-ups really pulled out all the stops), the festival-feel is something to look forward to this summer. Tickets are on sale from 9am on Monday 9th January, and you may well want to make sure you’re part of the clamour.

Manic Street Preachers play Times Square, Newcastle on Saturday 5th August.
