Reliably informed

Stand-up comedian, actor, author, former recording artist, political activist: there’s not much that Alexei Sayle hasn’t turned his hand to in his 30-year career. Best known for being ne of the biggest alternative comedians of the 80s, thanks to his brand of surreal Python-esque humour, Sayle has also racked up an impressive CV of TV credits, including appearances in The Young Ones, Doctor Who, and in his own Emmy-nominated show Alexei Sayle’s Stuff. In recent years, though, he’s become a little bit quieter, releasing a “satirical memoir” and becoming a motoring columnist for the Daily Telegraph. More recently, he’s been hard at work on his second autobiography.

In this special appearance at the Alnwick Playhouse, Sayle will be giving a preview of the second volume of his rib-tickling and thought-provoking memoirs, Thatcher Stole My Trousers, as well as from his first volume, Stalin Ate My Homework. With titles like that, you know that you’re in for a treat of politicised anecdotes, ramblings and opinions with a good dose of hilarious comedy thrown in. He’ll also be reading some of his best-loved short stories (is there anything he can’t do?) and ending the evening with a round of questions, answers and shouting. Well, it wouldn’t be an evening with Alexei if there wasn’t a bit of ranting in there somewhere.

Listen With Alexei takes place at the Alnwick Playhouse on Thursday 28th May.
