As the lead single from a new EP due later in the summer Kobadelta’s Hold Yr’self, like the bastard offspring of Jethro Tull and Black Sabbath, may be something of a leap forward stylistically but retains the dark marauding blues that is at the heart of the band’s sound. While the signature flute hook might be the best thing since Aqualung, the black gold guitar riff that accompanies it is pure Kobadelta, as it builds into a hypnotic groove reminiscent of early Verve but with the volume turned up to 11.

In support of this awesomeness the Newcastle five-piece are having a launch party at Dog & Parrot’s Jumpin’ Jacks. Support comes from Black Atom Movement and The Old Pink House. With a further ‘special guest’ yet to be announced (and it’s a cracker) this is shaping up to be one of the line-ups of the year so far.

Kobadelta, Black Atom Movement and The Old Pink House play Jumpin’ Jacks at the Dog & Parrot on Saturday 4th June.
