Reliably informed

With a career spanning over fifteen years, Kevin Devine is one of those artists that inspires devotion and feverish loyalty amongst his supporters but remains relatively unknown outside of that fan base. After being a member of the emo-rock band Miracle of ’86 back in the early noughties, he struck out on his own with his personal and affecting solo album Circle Sets The Square in 2002 .

He’s remained prolific and has continued to perform, tour and record over the years, and his tour of the UK brings him to Tynemouth Surf Cafe on Tuesday 11th July in support of his latest album Instigator, which was released last year.

Instigator manages to keep close to the successful emo formula of earlier days but blends the personal and political in Devine’s own, inimitably melodic way. The whole album undulates and twists through a perfect mix of fuzzed-up guitar, acoustic strumming, big build-ups and catchy choruses. Basically, it’s a diamond in the indie-rock rough that you should definitely seek out.

Tynemouth Surf Cafe is the perfect intimate venue to truly experience his beautifully constructed music, so don’t sleep on tickets for this as it’s bound to sell out well ahead of time.

Kevin Devine plays Tynemouth Surf Cafe on Tuesday 11th July.
