Reliably informed

John Cooper Clarke has carved a role as one of Britain’s most famous performance poets. For decades, the Bard Of Salford has wowed with his way with words, becoming much loved and much revered in equal measure. His importance should not be underestimated, his punk attitude and swagger breathing life into the poetry world, he’s set to perform at Sage Gateshead on Thursday 9th June.

Rising to prominence in the 1970s, his biting satire and sharp take on socio-political issues brought him legions of fans, and his rapid-fire performances gave a short, sharp shock to those who witnessed it. He became a counter culture icon in the process, as well as an important alternative literary figure, still as vibrant as ever, he’s still influencing plenty of current artists too. With a new anthology of his work released late last year, there’ll be some all time favourites to be heard, from an absolute master of the spoken word.

John Cooper Clarke comes to Sage Gateshead on Thursday 9th June.
