Everyone’s favourite emo heroes Jimmy Eat World will make a welcome return to Newcastle in the new year with a show at O2 Academy on Wednesday 30th January. The Arizona four-piece have been releasing consistently brilliant records since 1994, and relentless touring in that time has ensured a die-hard fan base will be out in force to see them when they hit the North East.

First coming to people’s attention with Clarity in 1999, they broke into the mainstream with 2001’s Bleed American, with the album spawning a number of hits like the anthemic The Middle which has become an indie rock disco classic. Following that record up with 2004’s Futures, featuring the epic ballad 23 and 2007’s Chase This Light, the band were practically untouchable for the early part of the 21st Century, rounding off the decade with the character-driven maturity of Invented. Their energetic sound may have mellowed a little over the years since, but live they still put on an electrifying show and this year they released the excellent double A-side singles Love Never and Half Heart; their first material since 2016’s full-length Integrity Blues.
