The second instalment of the Beyond the Wall residency brings in another trio of Northern talent
Last week we reported on the first of a series of new gigs put on by Charlie Dancer and his business partner Ollie, under the name of Beyond the Wall. Just a week later, they’re back to put on the second night of the residency featuring local bands, taking place at the Head of Steam on Friday 19th December.
Headlining the second event is Jasper House, an indie band from Leeds who enjoying weaving dreamlike melodies into their already luscious work. Their tracks Things We Made and Fill Me In, as well as recent single Happy Go, beautifully exemplify their ability to make danceable indie-rock with a melancholic twinge. They’ve made quite a name for themselves on the live circuit, often leaving audiences begging for more thanks to their intricate and expertly crafted tunes.
Jasper House are backed up by Spitfire Hostels, a Northern indie rock band who’ve gained comparisons to the Maccabees due to their socially conscious, thoughtful lyrics and their penchant for jangle pop. Their high energy and perky nature stands out on their EP Close My Eyes, which was released at the beginning of the year.
Rounding off the line-up is AVENUES, a bunch of North Eat upstarts whose music stands out just as much as their capitalised name. The group combine atmospheric backing instrumentation with soaring vocals, creating a lush and expansive wave of sound that is as affecting as it is noisy.
