The London band bring their no-nonsense politically-charged emo anthems to Newcastle

itoldyouiwouldeatyou have been raring to go since the whole world shut down in 2020, wasting no time in getting back on the road. Following a short spree of shows at the end of 2021, this month sees the group bring their no-nonsense brand of politically-charged emo anthems to Newcastle’s Cluny on Monday 11th April.
Their debut album, Oh Dearism, is the epitome of this mindset. From the get-go, you have Earl, King, Whatever – a gut-wrenching morbid ballad about the inevitability of death. Because, you know, emo. Young American documents a failing relationship with the sonic versatility of early emo bands who were unafraid to experiment within the genre to further define their own niche. But while some bands love to talk a big game, itoldyouiwouldeatyou are one of the most vocal on the scene right now; if they have something to say, they’ll damn well say it. It’s a trait that many could learn from, because I’m sure a lot of us are tired of carefully crafted statements from legal representatives. They’re not just provocative for provocative’s sake – this band always has done things their own way.
Support comes from alt. ambient post-rockers Redwood.
