Veteran promoters The Kids Are Solid Gold once again prove their promoter chops by bringing Portland, Oregon’s Horse Feathers to Middlesbrough’s Westgarth Social Club on Sunday 30th September.
Over the course of six well-received albums, the American band have garnered considerable praise for their winsome alt. folk. Currently releasing on the revered Kill Rock Stars label, their most recent release, Appreciation, sees them stretch their musical wings further than ever before, with a sonic palette which takes in violin-led country and quirky neo-folk peppered with skewed time signatures and underpinned by chief songwriter Justin Ringle’s throaty drawl. Tracks like Born In Love, populated with a percussive splendour and spacious keys, and the twangy lushness of Don’t Mean To Pry serve to showcase the breadth of music on offer. Ringle’s storytelling is intuitive and highly personal which, when coupled with lush arrangements and an easy style, makes Horse Feathers a delightful prospect indeed.
It’s also worth mentioning the gig starts at 4pm and welcomes those 14+ (14-16 years with an accompanying adult).
