They say that adolescence is the best time of your life; that for all your efforts, you’ll never quite rekindle the senses of freedom and discovery enjoyed in your late teens and early 20s. It’s all bullshit of course – different lives pan out in different ways – but what it does highlight is the importance of living in the moment, not least when life’s offerings come with a handsome sprinkling of zeitgeist. This stance certainly appears to have been adopted by Hippo Campus, the Minnesota outfit who’d barely finished school when they attracted their first excitable murmurings some five years back. Such hype often weighs on young shoulders, but this quartet have made light work of expectations, delivering a pair of well-received full length albums and touring with such esteemed indie rock stalwarts as Modest Mouse and My Morning Jacket.

Now, the group are in the midst of an extensive international tour of their own, with the upcoming UK leg featuring an eagerly anticipated date at Newcastle’s Riverside on Saturday 16th February. The jaunt arrives on the back of September’s sophomore release Bambi, a record which drew high praise for its bold, adventurous nature – not least its seamless incorporation of synths and other electronic flourishes. With ‘old’ favourites from 2017’s Landmark also sure to feature, there’s little doubt they’ll be seizing their moment with both hands.
