What’s a good excuse for throwing a party? A special event? A holiday? Celebrating something? How about we have a party just to celebrate the fact that it’s already the second month of 2015. That’s what Newcastle’s Head of Steam are doing on Sunday 1st February, when they’re inviting you and a bunch of local bands down to help them celebrate the first of the month.

The good people down at the Head of Steam have managed to round up some of the region’s top talent for this one. Kicking off the bill is Middlesbrough’s Mouses, who deal in noisy DIY whose tunes are known for filling venues with blistering levels of sound. Newcastle’s Avenues recently released their new single Light It Up (no relation to the Fall Out Boy monstrosity), furthering the band’s knack for 80s-style indie rock in the vein of The Smiths and The Cure with a visceral songwriting ability.

Coquin Migale’s recently released F E E L EP has seen the Newcastle band receive some good critical attention and has meant that they’ve been a familiar face on the local circuit recently. The Head of Steam’s verdict? They’re “ok.” Think they might be underselling them a little bit there.

Rounding off the bill are Bernaccia, who play a delicious blend of neo-psychedelic blues rock. The recently released Cinema EP is dark and atmospheric and contains some seriously engaging lyrics telling tales of troubled souls and emancipation, all backed up by ballsy blues.

At £1 per band, you can’t really complain about the quality of the line-up. Not that anyone would want to. Let’s have a party. It’s February!

Mouses, Coquin Migale, Avenues and Bernaccia all play at the Head of Steam, Newcastle on Sunday 1st February.
