Amidst the idyllic surrounds of Barnard Castle a meteor of vibrancy, power, music, dance, art, food and raw African energy is going to strike, exploding in colour and creating a colossal shower of creativity. Yes, Hannabiell and Yilis are back with the fourth annual (and completely child-friendly) Harambee Pasadia festival, running at The Hub in Barnard Castle from Friday 27th until Monday 30th May, and hot damn is it a good one!

In addition to our hosts’ incredible band, Midnight Blue, the festival also welcomes the best band from the birthplace of jazz, The Hot 8 Brass Band! This year, it’s all about rhythm and heat, as the Hot Diamond Aces will perform some breath-taking African drumming, with dancing from Angelina Abel, there’s traditional and contemporary folk from Pons Aelius and the whole weekend will be awash with some of the finest international and local bands around.

The beats keep coming after dark with WHQ’s Tommy Caulker and Glasgow’s Mungo’s HiFi block-rockin’ into the wee small hours as marshmallow fans gather around the impressive camp fire. It’s more than a music festival though, activities include (take a breath) West African Drumming, African American Step Dancing, Afro Cuban Dance, Salsa Dance, Samba Drumming, Kuduro, Yoga, Zumba, Sensory Spaces, Trapeze, Jacob’s Ladder, Crate Stacking, an Assault Course, Power Fan (?!), Swimming, Canoeing, Kayaking, Raft Building and food, lots of it!

Prepare to be equally inspired, energised, relaxed, amazed and quite simply…blown away.

Harambee Pasadia takes place at The Hub, Barnard Castle from Friday 27th until Monday 30th May.
