Reliably informed

Darlo’s favourite psych rockers Goy Boy McIlroy return for one night only on Friday 27th October at Stockton’s Georgian Theatre. Not exactly splitting as dissipating quietly with various members triying their hand at different ventures and fatherhood, there was always unfinished business with GBM.

Billed as a “one night only alt-rock spectacular”, we are promised special guests and some cracking support acts still to be confirmed.

The band’s first show in over a year will remind fans of the brooding, blistering alt-blues that got the NME et al in such a lather first time around. In answer to the band’s own questions: are they still relevant? Yes. Are they a heritage act? Not yet by any stretch. Is this the last time they’ll be on stage together? For a band that often sounded like they were living every day like it was their last, how thrilling that it might be.

Dark and brooding like the carnival after closing time, Simon Goy’s psychedelic guitars and frontman David Saunders’ bad-trip guttural delivery should bring old favourites Redemption Caramel and Social Mobility Blues back to life, not to mention David’s penchant for exploring a venue. Why stay on stage when there are stairs and bars to climb on and an audience to meet?
