The exhibition by the illustrator is inspired by the urban landscapes of Northumberland
Last year, Holmeside Coffee in Sunderland became a haven for talented artists on Wearside; a series of highly successful shows have placed the venue firmly on the art map and they’re looking to continue their rise with their first SOLO show of 2015 by Lithuanian-born illustrator Gintare Kapociute’s exhibition. Her works come to Holmeside Coffee from Monday 26th January and provide a different look at the urban landscapes of Northumberland.
After Illusion: From Coal to the City highlights Kapociute’s keen interest in architecture and the social character of spaces. She create utopian images that are occasionally surreal but always expertly drawn, with precise line work and stunning shading.
Kapociute says: “At my exhibition, people can expect a series of illustrations inspired by the urban landscapes of Northumberland, the region’s coal mining heritage and developments in modern architecture. The exhibition will include illustrations from both my previous work and current projects.
“I think exhibition space in venues such as Independent is great for getting your work out there whilst meeting new people with similar interests, exchanging ideas and building a creative community. It is always interesting to see other people’s opinions and thoughts expressed through art.”
