Given how the usual New Year’s resolutions – get more exercise, adopt a healthier diet, put some money aside for savings, that sort of thing – usually disintegrate after two to three weeks contact with the darkness and gloom of an actual January, the timing of Fucked Up’s appearance at Think Tank? in Newcastle on Monday 21st January couldn’t be better. Starting to find yourself burdened that, actually, the next twelve months are going to be equally as stupid as the twelve preceding them? Well, time to get Fucked Up.

It’s also a pretty special time to see Toronto’s finest regardless, with the band touring the UK to promote their recent double-disc opus Dose Your Dreams. Pushing their already eclectic spin on hardcore into territory ranging from psychedelia, soulful strings and heavy electronics, Dose Your Dreams is the sound of a band blasting past any limitations of genre with glorious abandon.

With livewire frontman Damien Abrahams having already reduced his appearances on the new album amidst his second career as a broadcaster, and the band hinting that the Dose Your Dreams tour might be the last tour of theirs on such a globe-spanning scale, this North East appearance might prove to be a rare opportunity to catch one of modern punk’s major players.
