Reliably informed

The new show from comic John Scott, he who created Sod The Tories (And Have A Nice Week), sounds like a genuinely exciting prospect.

Although, I’m curious as to why John decided to change an event that was a success? “I just wanted to open the platform up to a wider variety of artists besides comedians. But the condition is you have to make it entertaining. I want you to ‘gan a bit radge’ and entertain us.”

With the amount of change in the air and genuine political debate now more apparent than any time since the days of Thatcher and the miner’s strike, Scott’s focus is on giving an audience something to chew over. “I’m more interested in treating an audience with the due respect their intellects deserve. They should be treated as informed individuals as opposed to a bewildered herd.” This is as much a comment on the British comedy scene as it is the political climate.

For the first show on Monday 25th January, Scott will be doing a live recording of his Edinburgh festival show Dissent, with support from local comedy maestro Gavin Webster and a couple of the regular Sod The Tories team as well.

I admire Scott for daring to change a winning format and hope his brave move is rewarded and returned tenfold by those he is striving to entertain and inform.

Free Thinking Radicals begins on Monday 25th January at The Stand, Newcastle, and running on the last Monday of every month.
