Reliably informed

The inspiration for Forward NE came after members of the group appeared on a panel at an online seminar about the gender gap in the music industry earlier this year. Research highlighted by Vick Bain revealed alarming statistics about the representation of women in the music industry, and spurred the group – who count members of the publishing, broadcast, recording, performing and support industries in the region among their number – into action. “As a group of women working in the local music industry, we come across gender disparities in our work all the time. We felt, as women in positions of influence and profile in the region, that we had an opportunity and a duty to help address some of these inequalities.”

Launching this month with a networking event, taking place on Tuesday 27th April at 6pm via Zoom, Forward NE invite women, trans and non-binary people to help shape the future of their activity. “We’re very keen to hear from people in the North East music scene, and over the course of a relaxed and informal chat with like-minded people, we hope to discuss women, trans and non-binary people’s thoughts and ideas around how we can help to build future opportunities including workshops, seminars, networking and industry insights, and together move the regional music scene Forward.”

The group encourage anyone interested in joining the network to sign up to a mailing list to be kept informed on future activity, and to follow their page on Facebook.
