I’m willing to bet that the majority of our readers are music obsessives; the sort of people who find the reality that it’s just not possible to listen to every band, just in case they’re the Next Favourite Band, hard to bear. You’re collectors, completists, fans of the highest order. Theatre company The Six Twenty know this breed of music lover well, in fact, they’ve created an entire show around it: Fans returns to Live Theatre in Newcastle from Wednesday 3rd-Saturday 6th October after a sell-out run in 2016. At its heart the show is a love letter to music; the story of a fledgling band is told through raucous live music and real life music fans’ confessions, resulting in a feel-good show which will strike a chord in anyone with a love of music.

In the spirit of the show’s subject matter, here at NARC. we’ve teamed up with Live Theatre and The Six Twenty to give a leg up to emerging and established musicians alike, with a free and informal talk entitled How To Be A DIY Band taking place on Wednesday 3rd October before the first performance. It’s an opportunity to find out about how to put on a DIY gig, get press and radio airplay and establish a presence. On Saturday 6th, after the final performance of Fans, we celebrate at an aftershow party with a performance from Sunderland’s own emerging indie rock band Plastic Glass.
