Cobalt has already built a strong reputation for its inventive programming, but Sunday 28th October finds the venue and arts spacing hosting an especially challenging and rewarding evening.

Eartheater, the noise and electronics project of Alexandra Drewchin, uses her three-octave vocal range and understanding of classical composition to produce work that plays with the duality between acoustic and vocal instrumentation and digital processing and distortion, between careful composition and precision and harsh, violent abstraction.

Her most recent album, IRISIRI, toys with notions of ambient music, disrupting its glacial, textural flow with discordant vocalisations and elliptical mantras, but it’s her visceral live performances that have won her the most acclaim. Following a daring performance at The Tyne Bar three years ago, it’ll be fascinating to see how her practice has continued to evolve.

Also appearing on the night is multi-media duo Adrena Adrena. The collaboration of percussionist E-Da Kazuhisa, former member of legendary Japanese avant-rock act Boredoms and current member of Seefeel, and visual artist Daisy Dickinson, Adrena Adrena is the meeting of Dickinson’s live visual mapping and projections with the magnetic rhythms of Kazuhisa. If this year’s TUSK Festival has whetted your appetite for musical and artistic experimentation, this evening is one to mark out on the calendar.
