Inverted Grim-Mill’s mission to bring the darkest, dankest sounds to Tyneside hits a new peak with Dronehenge, for which our crab-obsessed hero will be aided by the mysterious Shadow of Venom. Taking place at Newcastle’s Culture Lab on Saturday 3rd September, Dronehenge is a self-proclaimed ‘all day harsh noise/drone fest’ that promises nine hours of sounds from 10 acts.

Much of the bill features local talent – some artists appearing in new combinations – in the form of acts like Corpse Twitcher, Horrible Porn, Xazzaz, Wrest Church Burner, Schwarzgerät and Depletion. But there are also some big hitters from further afield, like Holland’s Mowlawner – a dark ambient project featuring Eric from Gnaw Their Tongues, assisted live by Mories de Jong, also of GTT. And perhaps most notably of all, the promoters have secured a slot from the legendary Skullflower, nearly 30 years into an intermittent career which saw the Matthew Bower-led outfit emerge from the power electronics/industrial scene in the late eighties to work with – or include members from – everyone from Godflesh to Whitehouse, Coil to Terminal Cheesecake, as well as local lad Lee Stokoe, who also records as Culver and appears in his Inseminoid guise. This is Skullflower’s first visit to Tyneside in years and isn’t to be missed.
