There’s been lots to get excited about in 2016 for the North East music scene already, even with the new year only a few days old. Some of the stand-out emerging bands, potential shining lights of a fresh, vibrant music scene for the year ahead are brought together at Head Of Steam on Thursday 14th January.

Drifts have been perfecting a lovely alt indie, post-punk influenced sound. With melodic guitar riffs cutting in under Ross Millard of The Futurehead’s sincere vocal melodies, and backing vocals that beautifully join in at just the right moments. No Ditching are a perfect choice to play alongside them, a similar post-punk influence is present in their sound, though they have an even poppier, bouncy undercurrent bubbling away, it’s straightforward no-nonsense musicianship beneath ridiculously catchy female vocals that will be a great addition to the gig.

There’ll be a slightly heavier tinge to Integers‘ sound, while rounding it all out, there’s something a little bit different again, with melodic, captivating songs drawing influence from more folksy places from A Festival, A Parade.

There aren’t going to be many better line-ups of some of the finest and brightest bands the North East has to offer, with a mix of influences on show, here are four really good bands who have a knack for writing some really special songs.

Drifts, No Ditching, Integers and A Festival, A Parade play Head Of Steam on Thursday 14th January.
