Art pop collective Dilettante unveil an EP of unnervingly chilled, bittersweet lyricism
Art pop collective Dilettante had a blast with their debut album, last year’s Hatesongs. This record was the epitome of smiling through gritted teeth, with almost every song a sickly sweet rampage against some personal wrongdoing. They quickly became the North East’s favourite up-and-coming angst masters, earning airtime and accolades across local outlets.
Now, they’re looking to add another string to their bow, with their new release Lovesongs. This EP features B-sides to its predecessor – those few tracks written for the album, but which didn’t quite cut the mustard as far as angst went. The tracks provide more of that unnervingly chill vibe: melodic piano simultaneously chimes with bittersweet, angelic vocals, yet both clash poetically with the brutality of straight-up bitter lyricism.
