Reliably informed

The Boiler Shop continues its enigmatic – not to mention exciting – programming as it brings Richard Fearless, aka Death in Vegas, to fill its beautiful, stark, industrial space on Thursday 26th July.

Death in Vegas now have an unbelievable twenty years behind them, and while perhaps being unfairly lumped in with the whole Big Beat thing in the late 90s, later less commercial work showed the depth of influences and outright genius of their arrangement and production. Never afraid to throw expectations under the bus in favour of ongoing exploration, Death in Vegas have collaborated with Bobby Gillespie, Iggy Pop, and (proving nobody’s perfect) Liam Gallagher in the past, so it’s to be expected that this live show in Newcastle will be anything but predictable.

There’s no sign of Fearless’ creativity waning and this year’s tour of intimate venues is preceded by the release of new single Honey, his second collaboration with iconic former adult entertainment actress Sasha Grey on vocals. A slow, seductive serenade, Honey is dripping with organic, psychedelic tones and full of dreamy intensity.

With a history that fuses electro, dub, drone-heavy rock, soul and experimentation to create spacious and other-worldly sounds, while merging seamlessly with the pop current – I can’t think of a better way to spend a hot Thursday night.
