Reliably informed

Once again, having the Celtic Connections Festival a comparatively short trip up the road means that Newcastle gets some top notch artists visiting around their Glasgow visit. This Friday it’s the wonderful Dawn Landes, who fetches up at the Cluny 2 on Friday 16th January en route to Scotland (yet another smart Jumpin’ Hot Club booking in their 30th anniversary year).

Landes has been at it for a decade now, making some consistently excellent albums of folky Americana (think Laura Veirs, Rebecca Pronsky, Jenny Lewis et al), as well as being a multi-instrumentalist and frequent collaborator. And like Lewis in particular, she’s the kind of Americana artist that indie kids seem to dig (she’s toured with people like Feist, Midlake and the mighty Weakerthans, which gives you a sense of where she’s coming from).

Latest album Bluebird earned some great reviews last year (and perhaps a little too much comment on its subject matter, her split from Josh Ritter) and while it’s perhaps not her best, it’s still pretty damn good and this looks like it’ll be a very good way to spend an otherwise dismal Tyneside Friday night.

Dawn Landes comes to The Cluny 2, Newcastle on Friday 16th January.
