David Thomas Broughton is an avant-garde folk singer from Otley, currently residing in Seoul, South Korea. His last album, Crippling Lack, was an understated masterpiece and the finest document of Broughton’s wonderful voice, words and knack for completely uncontrived unorthodox arrangement.

An utterly compelling songwriter and performer, David’s shows incorporate unconventional performance art, Andy Kaufmann-esque anti-comedy, and wonderful songs, occupying the center of a Venn diagram including Buster Keaton, Jake Thackray and Richard Dawson, David’s inimitable live performances are not to be missed.

David’s performances are truly something to behold, the deadpan humour of his performance never detracts from his material. He’s a real tour de force of an artist who, in the space of an hour, can take you from laughter to the verge of tears.

There’s good news for North East fans, as there are two opportunities to catch the performer coming up this month. Newcastle’s Cobalt Studios feature David on a bill which also includes maverick performer and composer John Bence on Thursday 4th April, while Eaglescliffe’s vegetarian institution The Waiting Room welcomes him on Sunday 14th April alongside folk performer Andrew DR Abbott.
