Newcastle-based gig promoters I Love My Brick have put together some fantastic live shows over the past three years and their next promises to be another explosive billing, bringing together some rowdy Northern powerhouses.
Incendiary Glaswegian synth punks Damn Teeth will be headlining the Head of Steam gig on Friday 3rd August, as they gear up for the release of their second album Real Men. Featuring current and ex-members of Joanna Gruesome, Thin Privilege and Black International, the band’s 2015 self-titled debut was an exercise in chaotically pounding no-wave, with ensuing live performances proving a huge hit with crowds.
Support comes from Newcastle psychedelic doom surf trio Cheap Lunch. A band who, as well as pulling off some garishly jazzy shirts, belt out big, fuzz-laden riffs and banshee-like vocals. After a blinding set at Cobalt for Evolution Emerging’s tenth anniversary bash back in June, the band promise to bring their blistering set to Head of Steam’s tiny confines. Expect a feral slacker-punk hybrid, featuring big riffs and a weird spiritual intensity. As if the line-up couldn’t get any stronger, head down early for an opening set from drone-heavy psych monsters Snakes Don’t Belong In Alaska.
