Candle & Bell are a Newcastle-based film production company and are set to begin work on their debut feature film, STINE, with exciting news that the film is being developed with the support of national creative development agency Creative England’s Emerging Talent Fund via the BFI NET.WORK, with work beginning immediately.

The contained sci-fi feature film, set in Newcastle upon Tyne in the near future, will be written and directed by award-winning new talent Kat Wood, who hails from Yarm originally. Kat and producer Maria Caruana Galizia of Candle & Bell first met two years ago on the BFI NET.WORK’S Making The Leap talent development programme: a series of networking and learning events for Northern-based producers, writers and directors preparing to make their first feature film. Kat and Maria discovered they both shared a passion for great genre stories, and have been seeking out the perfect opportunity to work together ever since.

Kat directed her first short film HOME earlier this year. Starring Academy Award nominated actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, and produced by Kevin Spacey. HOME won Kat the Jameson First Shot Competition – making her the first UK recipient of this coveted directing award.

With such good experience behind it, it’s exciting times for North East film making and we can all get a little excited for the new film’s release.
