The exhibition based around the Star of Shieldfield links into many other artistic events
Wise men and women are invited to follow the Christmas star to Shieldfield for Conjunction, an exhibition running at The Holy Biscuit Tuesday 9th – Saturday 20th December. ‘Conjunction’ is the name of a theory given to explain the Star of Bethlehem, a culmination of Saturn and Jupiter having aligned themselves three times over a short space of time. Even if you’re not the religious type, there’s plenty to get you in the Christmas spirit.
You can leave your gold, frankincense and myrrh at home – instead people are invited to add a light to the gallery’s very own special installation which is intended to represent the famous star. The three kings will be represented by experts in the fields of astronomy and the arts. The exhibition will feature work from artist Kathy Cole, currently exhibiting at the BALTIC as part of the astronomy themed They Used to Call it the Moon. There will also be spiritual insight from local writer and priest Dominic White, and further interpretation by dancers from the Eliot Smith Dance Company (based in the St Vincent de Paul building opposite the Star and Shadow).
On Sunday 14th, the Holy Biscuit is partnering with Ouseburn Farm; visitors can ‘follow the star’ down from the gallery to the Ouseburn Valley for a live nativity, complete with carols and re-enactments (not to mention authentic animal smells!). Worth travelling afar for.
Conjunction comes to the Holy Biscuit from Tuesday 9th to Saturday 20th December.
