Cohesion is finally returning to the city of Sunderland. And before you pounce on this Newcastle-based publication for municipal favouritism, we must step in and point out we don’t mean that as a slight; quite the opposite. Cohesion is one of the finest bands to come out of Wearside in recent years and we’ve been counting the days till they return to play the city’s brilliant live music venue at the¬†Independent on Friday 23rd January.

Formed in 2010, the indie-rock five piece have built up quite the reputation for their high energy live performances, crashing down conventional stereotypes and blasting a whole lot of other similar bands out of the water. Over the past couple of years they’ve supported Frankie and the Heartstrings at their album launch in Sunderland and Drenge on their UK tour and played Evolution Emerging, not to mention Split and Bernicia alongside acts such as Dizzee Rascal and local heroes Maximo Park.

It’s only fitting that the lads have elected to launch their latest single Luna at The Independent, joined by local talent The Montagues and James Carroll. They’ve only just finished gallivanting around the UK as part of their first full-blown UK tour; now they’ve returned to their hometown to show us what we’ve all been missing.

Cohesion play Sunderland’s Independent on Friday 23rd January.
