Reliably informed

A feminist gaggle of gal power goodness and Alicia Silverstone worthy barnets, Seattle-based girl band Chastity Belt bring their undeniably ruthless attitude to Newcastle’s very own Think Tank? on Monday 19th October.

If their crude name doesn’t expose enough, the four-piece communicate gently vulgar, sweetly 90’s and bouncy beats that tempt you to pierce your lip and perhaps push over a table or two. Having met in college, Chastity Belt’s music is largely based upon a red cup, pom-pom pandemonium, tracks such as Seattle Party carelessly breathe lyrics such as “Your tattoos are so deep, they really make me think”, a subtle nudge at your average young lad with ‘Mum’ (or perhaps ‘Mom’) etched in a wonky heart on his bicep.

The girls’ sarcastic, effortless vibe shown on their debut album No Regerts (intentional typo, badass) is accompanied by floaty guitar riffs and continuous drum beats, all fuelled by lead singer Julia Shapiro’s deep, grungy tone. The compilation of mid-note snarls and scrunchies is one that surprisingly works.

If you’re in the mood for an abundance of head-banging delight, or want to release your inner riot grrrrrl, then head down to Think Tank? and allow your (not so local) girl gang to whisk you away with their goofy, fearless and inspiring live shows.
