Having treated Newcastle to delights such as Full of Hell, Primitive Man and Grave Desecrator over the past year (and that’s before we even get to DoNkStOcK, another monstrosity entirely…) it feels appropriate that Byker Grave Bookings are rounding out a busy 2018 with an extension of their flagship event.

Returning for a sixth year, the latest Byker Grave Festival is a fully-fledged weekender, casting its macabre web over the Star & Shadow Cinema on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th November. Headed by pulverising Texan grind masters P.L.F., Saturday’s bill promises a blitzkrieg of whiplash-inducing extremity, with Liverpool’s fabulously named ‘equestrian blastcore’ outfit Horsebastard joined by gnarly Bristolian death metallers Body Harvest and atmospheric black metal from Edinburgh’s Úir, not to mention the old school death metal of local favourites Live Burial.

Sunday, meanwhile, offers up a feast of primal, leaden heaviness topped by Conan – Merseyside’s world leaders in the noble art of ‘caveman battle doom’ – and Rugby sludge titans Conjurer, who caused quite the stir with last year’s debut album, Mire. The supporting cast is pretty weighty too, with emerging stoner rockers Green Lung travelling north from London, together with bludgeoning post metal courtesy of capital contemporaries Wren.

Bring earplugs. No, seriously…
