Ewan MacColl was a man of many talents; foremost a renowned musician, made remarkable by his somber and anecdotal blend of folk music. Nearly thirty years after his death, the work of MacColl is still as acclaimed and respected as it was when it was made, and this Thursday 5th November his admirable back catalogue is to be recited at Sage Gateshead.

Curated by sons of MacColl, Neill and Calum, Blood & Roses is a commemorative evening of music showcasing the work of the esteemed folk singer, performed by a number of notable likeminded artists such as Seth Lakeman, Eliza Carthy and local heroes Rachel and Becky Unthank. Perhaps the most endearing quality the evening possesses is that MacColl’s close family members, all of whom have inherited his astounding musical ability, will act as the in-house backing band for the night.

Expect to be subject to beautiful and unique renditions of the likes of Dirty Old Town, The Manchester Rambler and countless others, at this truly special family occasion.

Blood & Roses: The Songs of Ewan MacColl takes place at Sage Gateshead on Thursday 5th November.
