If you’ve been running your gig nights for four months, what’s the best thing to do? Simple. Put on four of the best emerging bands from the region and beyond in a mega showcase of indie awesomeness. That’s what Beyond the Wall are doing with their first showcase event, being held at the Dog and Parrot, Newcastle on Friday 6th March.

Heading up the bill are Newcastle quintet Spitfire Hostels, who deal in everything edgy in alternative rock. Combining abrasive lyrics with pop-infused guitar licks and restless rhythm, they’ve gained a reputation for being fearsome live thanks to their constantly energetic and evolving indie. They’re joined by Huddersfield alt-soul duo Lew Rey. Lewis Reynolds and Ian Walker create a beguiling blend of urban and soul that isn’t restricted by the pesky confines of one particular genre. Championed by Huw Stephens and DJ Fresh, their debut EP What’s Up? was a blast of refreshingly creative pop.

BTW favourites Blind Buffalo are also making an appearance at the event, bringing their distinctive indie rock to the Dog and Parrot. Recent EP From The Water combines old and new material from the genre-hopping four-piece, giving a small but sweet dose of what the quartet do best (plus it’s free on their Bandcamp page, so there’s no excuse not to check them out). Rounding off the bill are the mysterious Stone Beach, completing the foursome of super-talented bands to grace the Dog and Parrot.
