Ben Watt is a multi-faceted DJ, musician, producer, writer and performer whose outstanding career has now stretched across four decades. He’ll be touching down at The Cluny in Newcastle on Saturday 29th February to showcase his latest album Storm Damage, which leans heavily on upright piano, double bass and acoustic-electronic drums. It’s a departure from some of his more recent efforts, which favoured a twin-guitar approach, and the electronic records which arrived during his time spent producing with Tracey Thorn under the moniker Everything But The Girl.

The latter would see Watt reach number 2 in the US Billboard Top 100, and have records remixed by the legendary house music pioneer Todd Terry. He would later enhance his reputation in the dance music industry through hosting club nights at legendary nightspots Cherry Jam and Neigbourhood.

What followed was his own record label, Buzzin Fly Records, and his own show on BBC Radio 6Music. He returned to his own solo productions in 2013, where he has remained ever since, and his most recent live shows are right at home in more intimate venues like The Cluny 2, performing the music that established him as one of the country’s most talented and versatile producers.
