BBC Newcatle’s Jesting About offers a tremendous opportunity for up-and-coming stand-up comedians in the North East; the chance to perform at a wonderful venue in Newcastle’s Live Theatre, and the chance to be a part of that show going out on radio as part of six episodes in June and July. The shows take place on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd March, and the final line-ups for both days have just been announced.

With relative newcomers packed into some spectacularly good bills alongside some of our region’s most well-established comedy acts, phenomenal MCs and incredible headliners; these are two nights full of funny, with some of the finest comedy minds around. The standard of those who put themselves forward was again very high, and producer and curator Steve Drayton scoured a vibrant North East comedy scene to make sure the best and brightest were selected.

Tuesday 22nd March sees MC Jason Cook introduce Ben Crompton, Andy Fury, Kier Kyle, Julian Lee, Sean Turner, Joby Mageean, Laura Hunter, Rowan McCabe, Lauren Pattison and Fran Garrity. While Wednesday 23rd March has a similarly splendid assortment of comedy riches as Lee Kyle, The Mimic Men (Alfie Joey & Cal Halbert), John Whale, Neil Harris, Jazz Riot, John Scott, Anth Young, Mark Kennedy, Rahul Kohli and Eddie Rivers are part of a packed show held together by MC Nicola Mantallios-Lovett.

The profile of this series was made all the more special when it was lauded by judges at the prestigious Gillard Awards. BBC Newcastle recently bagged Station of the Year, which was certainly aided by the Jesting About episodes.

With tickets for both shows free, and going up for grabs from 10am on Monday 7th March, there may be a rush to form the audience for these special events, so make sure you snap up your chance to catch some of the most hotly tipped comedy acts around.

BBC’s Jesting About takes place at Live Theatre on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd March.
