Would you believe that Barrence Whitfield & The Savages were the first band I ever attended for NARC.? Now, clearly, you won’t really care about my personal journey but they are bloody marvellous and well worth the price of a ticket.

Raucous, full-throttle and, er, savage, Barrence Whitfield has been described as a “a soul screamer in the spirit of Little Richard, Wilson Pickett, and Solomon Burke,” which is one hell of a recommendation in itself. If that doesn’t convince you, imagine that aggressive soul being belted out over a soundtrack of the finest garagey, bar room blues rock in the world, topped off with a bit of cheeky sax. Have you imagined that? Good. Have you bought your ticket? Even better.

Hitting up The Cluny in Newcastle on Thursday 10th May and Westgarth Social Club in Middlesbrough on Friday 11th , there’s no excuse not to go to one (or both) of these shows where you can expect to hear old favourites alongside new bangers from upcoming album Soul Flowers of Titan.

Support in Newcastle is TBC, but in ‘Boro you can get warmed up with the hot sounds of Tyneside’s finest surf combo The Milk Lizards and up-and-coming Teesside garage blues rockers Oilbirds.
