If you’re rummaging for a bargain, things don’t get much better than the quintessentially British tradition of the car boot sale. If there’s anything shows like Cash In The Attic have taught us, it’s that buried amongst heaps of dust and a few old tablecloths, an invaluable treasure can often be lurking. Even if it’s not, you know how that old saying goes: one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Unfortunately, car boot sales don’t really have a lot of street cred attached to them, and seemingly no amount of students appearing on Bargain Hunt will change that.

The team behind Canny Crafty are looking to change perceptions with their distinctly rock’n’roll take on the boot sale at The Central. The team are encouraging people setting up shop at the event to sell mostly vintage clothing, records and band merch, meaning there could be a few rare bits of musical memorabilia in the mix. Punters are free to bring along their own items to barter with or swap directly for other peoples’ wares on the day. Weather permitting – this is the British Summer we’re talking about here – there will also be a BBQ on the terrace. Let’s face it, with a name like Bad Ass Barter you know you’re not going to be raking through porcelain dolls and slightly grubby knick knacks and Canny Crafty might just have another roaring success on their hands.

Bad Ass Barter takes place at The Central, Gateshead on Sunday 9th August.
