The August issue of NARC. Magazine is available now, from over 200 outlets across the North East.

Our cover star this month is the amazing Nadine Shah, who chatted to Nick Wesson about her bold, politicised new album.

With an awesome August ahead we preview gigs by Electric Wizard, Damo Suzuki, The Vaselines, Stubborn Sounds, Bruja, Millions Of Dead Cops, Lamchop, Vuromantics, Future Horizons, Swine Tax and The Orwells. We’re also well into festival season so we take a look at Summer Punch, Mousetival, Live At Times Square and Chase Park Festival.

Festival season doesn’t just stop at music either, as culture-wise, Maxine Davies tells us all about Whitley Bay Film Festival. We also spotlight NewBridge Books, Bongo’s Bingo, Echoes Of Abstraction, Seymour Mace, Andrea Arnold, Peter Doubt, The Gaol Ballads, Much Ado About Nothing, Away With Birds and The Social Lectures. Emily Ingram also gets us excited about the return of Alphabetti Theatre.

We have local interviews galore with local movers and shakers as Mark Corcoran-Lettice speaks to Baker Island, and also chats to Warm Digits. Linsey Teggert chats to Cheap Lunch.

From outside the region, Nad Khan spoke to Parquet Courts. Mark Corcoran-Lettice also chatted to Wozniak and Horse Meat Disco.

The festival theme also continues as Steve Spithray gets to know all about Lindisfarne Festival.

In our Mixtape feature, we asked poet and theatre-maker Matt Miller about the music that gets him going. With a varied selection including Bowie, The Decemberists, Radiohead and Belle and Sebastian, there’s a lot packed in to an eclectic mix.

As ever, we’ve got you covered with the best and worst single releases this month; we look at Demos from up-and-coming bands from our region and pages full of listings of great things for you to do this month

There’s album reviews too, as we look at releases from Lone Taxidermist, Madonnatron, Blackdamp, Black Grape, War On Drugs, Everything Everything, Iron & Wine, EMA, Girl Ray, Downtown Boys and Paul Draper.

Finally, our Get Into… feature this month takes a look at stand-up comedy with local comic Si Beckwith, and gives you the lowdown on where to start to get your comedy fix.

Don’t forget, you can listen along to this month’s edition on our Soundcloud playlist below, or scan the QR code inside the magazine:
