Cobalt Studios continue in their mission to take Newcastle’s music lovers on strange and wonderful sonic journeys, and have unveiled a corker of a line-up on Friday 31st May which will see “live electronic landscapes of music from near and far”.

Headliners Ariwo will provide a cacophony of hypnotic Iranian/Cuban dance music; teetering on the edges of electronic music, Afro-Cuban rhythms, UK jazz and Iranian mysticism, the quartet’s live shows have been justifiably lauded for their ability to transfix an audience. Their name means ‘noise’ in the West African Yoruba language, and aptly describes the band’s measured assault on the senses; traditional rhythms combine with more recognisable electronic melodies to produce a sound which is wholly unique and utterly memorable. Having recently released their new album, Quasi, the group are likely to be on top form as they bring their exciting and unusual collaboration of sound to Newcastle.

Keeping them company will be Newcastle’s own purveyors of sonic mastery Grey Tapes, whose charismatic live electronica is highly tuneful and infinitely danceable.
