Over the last few years, the good people at Leave Me Here have brought all manner of delirious noise, freaked-out experimentation and unknown treasures to the region, from acts as diverse as Destruction Unit, Gnod, King Ayisoba and Shit & Shine. A Leave Me Here gig has become a bit of a stamp of approval: you see the name, and you know something weird and wonderful awaits.

Their latest event at The Head of Steam on Thursday 19th March promises much of the same, as they bring a bill of imperious psych power to the heads of Newcastle. Speaking of The Heads (smooth, huh?), guitarist Paul Allen will be headlining the night under his Anthroprophh guise. Fans of The Heads might recognise the blend of krautrock repetition, blown-speaker garage distortion and visceral drone, but Anthroprophh succeeds as its own wilder beast, placing a greater emphasis on special groove and intense guitar sketchings.

Playing alongside him are two superb north-east psych bands. Haikai No Ku, a power trio including members of Blown Out, Foot Hair and Female Borstal deliver a doomy take on the fierce, enigmatic sound of Japanese icons Les Rallizes Dénudés, while First Process Church of Mars are a Hartlepool-based band that deliver an energetic, improvisational take on stoner rock. Suffice to say: it’s another bone-rattling, mind-expanding Leave Me Here bill.
