Reliably informed

No, that’s not a typo or a dodgy cover band moniker you’ve spotted – for those not in the know, AK/DK are a disco punk duo from Brighton whose noise-fuelled kinetic electro pop has been garnering considerable acclaim over the last few years.

Their debut release in 2014 was entitled Synths + Drums + Noise + Space, which should give you some idea of what to expect from the dynamic duo; theirs is a sound of chaotic synths and vibrant percussion, melded into a freeform of noisy sound that manages to harness as much controlled pandemonium as carefully considered musicality. Recent single Defragment To Survive further serves as evidence of their considerable talent, with motorik synths and shouted refrains which call for unity. “We’re being split into an increasingly fragmented society by algorithms and propaganda; this is our joyful call to arms for unity and love.” They explain about the release.

Renowned for their exuberant live shows, and a firm favourite on the festival circuit, their gig for promoters Prancey Dog in the intimate environs of The Cumberland Arms on Thursday 11th April is certain to raise the roof. Support comes from Newcastle’s own feisty electroclash duo Novyi Lef.
