Aakash Odedra is known for being one of the country’s most talented choreographers, creating dance performances that are simultaneously emotional, heart-wrenching, thrilling and filled with drama and graceful movements. Basically, he encapsulates everything you’d want out of a choreographer. After successfully bringing his two latest works, Murmur and Inked, to a variety of venues across the country, the shows finally lands on Tyneside, when it comes to Dance City on Saturday 28th February.

The two productions, performed back to back on the same night, have two very different narratives but are both linked by the theme of the human body. Murmur looks at Aakash’s own childhood and his battles with dyslexia. It examines the way that people responded to his condition and will no doubt be an emotional experience for anyone who also suffers from dyslexia. Inked similarly draws on Aakash’s own experiences, but this time, as the title implies, he takes a look at the art of tattooing and skin inking, using a highly symbolic performance to explore the practices in a deep and unique way.
