Reliably informed

Some of the most interesting performance work I saw last year was based around music and lyrics (Nice Peter at Think Tank, Abandoman at the Sage), so I’m looking forward to seeing a variation on the theme, in the form of an all-female dance based lyric fest!

Northern Stage presents A Lyrical Dance Concert on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th February, which fuses contemporary dance with audience participation based on song lyrics from across all musical genres (pop, R’n’B, hip-hop). Well-known lyrics are transformed into visual expressions via the medium of dance and your input, with a dash of politics and crazy fun added in for good measure. Three performers bring bags of experience and shared passions to the piece – Gillie Kleiman (a Newcastle/London based artist who helps to run the popular contemporary dance magazine BELLYFLOP), Sara Lindstrom (a dancer and choreographer from Sweden) and guest performer Eleanor Sikorski (a choreographer and performer whose work spans dance, cabaret and comedy). It’s interactive, side-splittingly funny and a must for fans of contemporary dance and music, not to mention majorly accessible for non-dance audiences.

A Lyrical Dance Concert is at Northern Stage, Newcastle on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th February.
