Presented by live performance artist and comedian Liberty Hodes and fellow stand-up Lauren Stone, the ninth Comedy Night That Passes The Bechdel Test at Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre on Friday 4th May is set to be filled with gags galore, as a hand-picked bill of seriously funny folk are set out to whip up magical jokes like pulling a rabbit from a hat.

For those not in the know, to pass the Bechdel test a piece of work needs to have at least two women in it, who talk to each other about something other than a man. Aside from being a catchy (although rather long) title for a comedy show, the night serves as a fine opportunity to witness the duo’s rather fine stand-up skills and cabaret aplomb.

Together, Hodes and Stone excel in delivering line-ups that cater in joyful, rib-tickling, DIY humour that could cover anything from the world’s longest lip-stick and a musical duo being offered a threesome at a Holiday Inn, to Sheffield’s premier Vegetable Entertainer. On the cards this month are door to door poet Rowan McCabe, and comedians David McDonald and Jayne Edwards.
