Who can forget the chimneys of the Industrial Revolution surging out of the ground, accompanied by the pulsating rhythms of 1,000 drummers led by world renowned solo percussionist/composer Dame Evelyn Glennie at the London 2012 Opening Ceremony? The Grammy Award and Polar Music Prize winner has collaborated with the cutting edge Yorkshire-based contemporary dance company Joss Arnott Dance to create 5|0, which fittingly marks the fifth birthday of the Company and Dame Evelyn’s 50th.

Audiences will see a triple bill of work on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th November: 24, a quartet inspired by the recent massively popular Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition at the V&A; a technical and intense solo piece, V, which explores the rare beauty that our bodies have to offer; and the climax, Wide Awakening, which features five mesmerising dancers and a score co-written by Dame Evelyn, performed live alongside company Musical Director James Keane.

The dynamic choreography is sure to be high-octane and spine-tingling and the company features an all-female cast. At its heart, it aims to excite and inspire audiences no matter how many times they may have seen dance in the past; paired with originally composed music and astonishing dancers, this will be a powerful evening of dance and live music not to be missed.

5|0 takes place on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th November at Dance City, Newcastle. There will be a post-show talk on Friday 13th November.
