So you think you can be a heavyweight champion? No, I’m not talking about actual wrestling. Although there will be a ring. And some metaphorical wrestling, albeit with words. Nope, this is actually the 40 Kola Comedy Rola, where the steeliest of sketch comedians come to do battle. Across the course of three nights at the Alphabetti Theatre in March (Round 1 on Friday 6th, Round 2 on Friday 13th and the Grand Final on Saturday 21st), combative comedians will be invited to lay the smack down with their best sketches.

Directed by Alphabetti’s Artistic Director Ali Pritchard and associate artist Paula Penman, each night of the event will see eager participants grappling with their best routines to get more laughs than The Rock did belts. It’ll be high-octane action, with jokes coming thicker and faster than participants in the Royal Rumble. Across the course of the three epic showdowns the audience will inch closer and closer to knowing whose comedy chops are cut out for the championship. But when the final bell rings, only one skit can be the champion. The question is: whose sketch will it be? There’s only one way to find out…

40 Kola Comedy Rola takes place at Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle on Friday 6th, Friday 13th and Saturday 21st March
