Nevermind the cutting edge, Manchester Collective are an arts organisation so visceral they describe their output as being at the “bleeding edge of new music”. With a mission to create ‘radical human experiences’ through live music, they aim to deliver thrilling live performances with scant regard for conventions. Their daring programming brings contemporary classical music to life in unusual venues and Cobalt Studios’ industrial space will welcome the collective’s second appearance on Wednesday 5th December, this time bringing a raft of respected musicians and world-class performers in 100 Demons.

The new work traverses the space between strings and electronics, and comes in two sets; underground electronic artist Vessel will showcase his exploratory new work, The Birth of the Queen and genius composer Daniel Elms, who is the brains behind the titular piece, 100 Demons. Based in Hull, Elms’ work brings together orchestral textures and electro-acoustic instruments, often with a basis rooted in the urban environment he lives in. He’s described 100 Demons as being about fear, politics, perception and reality, and as his work often addresses disparate social, economic and political relationships between people and cities, there’s little doubt the performance will be a highly insightful one.
